Polish Society of Economists

Polish Society of Economists (Towarzystwo Ekonomistow Polskich - TEP) is an association grouping economists of free market economic philosophy. It was spontaneously established in late 1993 in protest against the hostile attitude of the existing association (PTE) to post-communist transition to the market.

Its members have been, i.e., the leading lights of Polish market-oriented economists, such as Leszek Balcerowicz, Janusz Beksiak, Wacław Wilczynski, Stan Wellis, Jan Winiecki, Cezary Józefiak, Marek Dąbrowski, and others.

The Society concentrates its activities on academic affairs and public economic education. Academic affairs include the organization of scholarly conferences (such the Lancut Economic Forum) and seminars, public policy panels considering the impact of policies on the economy, as well as encounters of TEP members with policy makers and other public figures. It also publishes, sometimes jointly with professional publishers, collections of conference papers and the like.

The members of TEP consider its other type of activity - public economic education - to be equally important. In its educational capacity the Society prepares, e.g., a series of short articles on important economic issues, which are later published throughout Poland in regional dailies. Other activities include public lectures, conferences with the media representatives, as well as special seminars for professional and occupational groups (such as, e.g., school teachers).

More about current activities can be found at the web address: www.TEP.org.pl. The seat of the Society authorities is Warsaw. The executive body, the Council, consists of 7 members. The president of the Council in this term is Prof. Jan Winiecki. The postal address of the secretariat is:
